Netflix streams in 4K Ultra HD only when every link in the chain supports it. If one piece is missing — the plan, the TV, a cable or your internet speed — you’ll get HD instead. Here’s the checklist, based on Netflix’s help pages.
1. Be on the Premium plan
In India and most countries, only the Premium plan includes 4K and HDR. In India it costs ₹649 a month (checked October 19, 2026). Check your plan under Account → Membership.
2. Use a 4K-capable device
Your TV, streaming stick or set-top box must support 4K and run the Netflix app in 4K. Not every 4K-capable TV supports Netflix in 4K, so check the device manufacturer’s specifications.
3. Check your HDMI connection
If you use an external device, connect it to an HDMI port that supports HDCP 2.2 or later, using a Premium High Speed or Ultra High Speed HDMI cable.
4. Have enough internet speed
| Quality | Netflix’s recommended speed |
|---|---|
| HD (720p) | 3 Mbps |
| Full HD (1080p) | 5 Mbps |
| 4K Ultra HD | 15 Mbps or higher |

5. Set playback to the highest quality
In a web browser, go to Account → Profiles → Playback settings and choose High (or Auto). Low data settings will cap quality.
6. Look for the 4K label
Titles available in 4K show a 4K or Ultra HD badge, and HDR titles show HDR or Dolby Vision. Not every title is available in 4K.
